Chansong Woo
Bio
Born and raised in South Korea, Chansong Woo (b.1989) now lives in Auburn, Alabama. She received her MFA in Studio Art from Florida State University, where she taught as an adjunct professor. Previously, she received her BFA and MFA degrees in Painting from Sookmyung Women's University in Seoul, South Korea. Her artwork explores how personal memory and trauma can be articulated through art. By engaging with themes of vulnerability and subjectivity, her art invites viewers as a post-generation from diverse backgrounds to reflect on how history is learned and remembered across generations.
Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally including solo exhibitions and group exhibitions at venues such as Pen and Brush (New York, NY), Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts (Montgomery, AL), InselGallerie (Berlin, Germany), York Art Gallery (York, England), Whatcom Museum (Bellingham, WA), Pensacola Museum of Art (Pensacola, FL), MoFA (Tallahassee, FL), Athens Institute for Contemporary Art (Athens, GA), Kunstraum Kreuzberg (Berlin, Germany), CICA Museum (Gimpo-si, South Korea), Songwon Art Center, and Palais de Seoul (Seoul, South Korea). Also, she was a longlist artist of the Aesthetica Art Prize 2024, a live gallery shortlisted artist of the Sunny Art Prize 2022 in the UK, and selected for Fresh Legs 2025 in Berlin, Germany. Recently, she has been awarded a Creative Residency at the Hambidge Center for Creative Arts and Sciences for fall 2025.
